With this in mind the Johan Cruyff Foundation was founded in 1997. By taking this step, Johan Cruyff was one of the first (former) athletes who linked his name to a foundation. After years of commitment to several social projects and fundraising activities, Johan wanted to stimulate the development of sport projects for children worldwide. A special interest goes out to the handicapped children and children in marginalized neighborhoods, since for them sport is especially hard to practice.
