The sport club Skövde AIK was founded in 1909. The club offers Soccer - we play in the first division, the highest amateur league - and Futsal, where we play in the first league and became Swedish Champions the last five years.
I played as forward during the Seasons 1997-2002 and 2006-2008. During the time when I was doing the master program my former soccer club had a job opening. After a lot of interviews, lobbying and negotiating between us, the board and I came to terms and I started to work with them last August. I am working as the Marketing Manager for the Soccer and Futsal Club Skövde AIK, and be responsible for marketing, external and internal communication, our sponsors and events. Our department counts with seven employees: salesmen, marketeers and web designers. I am also responsible for the (enormous amount of) volunteers.
How do you use the Master Program knowledge in your job?
I have gained a lot of knowledge from modules such as Leadership, Marketing, Event Organization, Finances, and Entrepreneurship. That is all very useful. But I think the main advantage of taking this Master is the fact that you do it with other students who are more or less in the same situation as you are. The helpful and positive input and feedback of fellow students and professors with a real passion for sport, motivates you to get involved in the sport sector. It was tremendous. This boosted my confidence and made me a much stronger person. I know now that I will succeed in my new job.
Do you want to add something else to your experience?
Amsterdam is a beautiful city and I had a great experience during my stay. The people in the city and all people that I met through the network of the Johan Cruyff Institute, treated me well and I see my self coming back to Amsterdam in the short future.
Per Kyrk-Astemo from Sweden graduated in June 2009 from our International Master of Sport Management in Amsterdam (MISM), which we offer in English at that site.
Per is very passionate about sports
and started to work for Skövde AIK after he finished the master.
