To launch students into their personal development in the world of sport management, the second session of the International Master of Sport Management (MISM) was held at the New Galgenwaard stadium in Utrecht. This stadium is home to the Dutch premier football club FC Utrecht, currently playing in the Europa league.
The day was lead by Joost de Wit, MISM Head Professor and Entrepreneurial Management Professor. The session included an introduction to entrepreneurial management, some practical examples delivered by guest speakers who are entrepreneurs in their own right, and a tour of the stadium. The guest speakers included Peter Kentie (Marketing and Media Manager, PSV Eindhoven), and Henry Vermeulen, (Commercial Director, FC Utrecht). The guest presentations gave an insight into the different roles and activities of people working in management positions in the sports world, and showed students that being an entrepreneur in any position enables a person to embrace opportunities and develop their business.
Ex-short track skater Barbara de Loor said “It was interesting to see the contrast between the skating world and football. There were also differences in the marketing approach by the two football clubs, FC Utrecht and PSV Eindhoven.
Bela Szenasi, student from Hungary and amateur soccer player: “I am impressed with the facilities and find it a very inspiring place“.
The visit to FC Utrecht was a “sporty start” to an informative, interesting and challenging year for the 2010/11 MISM students.
